After all the “fun” from the holidays has worn off do you think the kids will miss all of this? We are donating it to our pediatrician’s new office and a local crisis shelter. Most of these toys are in excellent condition (probably because there were too many of them for them to play with.) Anyways we think they need a good home where they can once again be appreciated. I should be all done by this evening where the kids will not see a trace of what is gone. Hope fully we can continue this same tradition, with less chaos every December.
The sutures from Derek’s last surgery are “peeking” through and they can’t get him in until next week. They told me to try to “clip them off.” Well that should be fun. Monday is Monet’s surgery to have tubes put in her ears. Otherwise they both have a “Christmas Cold” but are doing well. Hopefully this how we will leave 2007 for a healthy and uneventful 2008 and many more years to come.

I am not sure what we were thinking this year but we decided that it would be a GREAT idea to get the kids a trampoline. We bought one from my sister’s friend, they didn’t like that it shaded their yard and killed the grass, so it was pretty cheap.
Anyways, if we didn’t see the hospital enough I’m sure with our two fearless children this should bring up the number of visits to the ER and give us our first couple of broken bones. They were both priceless though. Steve convinced them that we all needed to go outside and clean-up reindeer poop from Santa’s visit. As they rounded the corner Derek exclaims, “Santa brought ME a trampoline.” Monet was speechless with her mouth open wide bewildered that Santa left this for her. Even though it was quite brisk that morning they jumped for over a half hour.

They had a wonderful Christmas and are still high on the excitement. I however am home purging toys as they sleep at Grammy’s completely unaware of the evil I am doing, they have so much I doubt they’ll truly miss it.

Every mom can empathize with me on this one…
Today was an epiphany for me, I realized why so many moms of toddlers don’t get dressed up and do their hair and make-up everyday, you can’t trust toddlers. I decided to take a quick shower while both Derek and Monet were quietly coloring and drawing in the living room (aka the toy/playroom now.) I climbed out of the shower as Derek came in, “Mommy, Mommy come see _____ Bailey.’” My first thought was ‘crap did I get everything off the counters or did the dog have a feast?’ Then Derek mentioned something about a wall, Daddy’s chair and Monet. As I rounded the corner there lay Bailey all sad and terrorized with her hind quarter colored purple, at least it matched her new collar.

“Then I walked out into the room and Monet had colored our chocolate walls purple and our front door yellow. Later on this afternoon I realized what Derek meant about Daddy’s Chair…it too had been “decorated” for Christmas with washable marker (we will see how washable it is tomorrow.)

So I ask you which is it, vandalism or art?

Sorry I been tied up lately with doctors, shopping and plain old life so I haven’t updated recently.
Derek is doing well and recovering but bless his little heart he hasa tendency to over do it and needs extra pain medication at night. He got the all clear from the surgeon on Friday to behave like a 3-year-old but someone forgot to tell Derek he wasn’t supposed to be himself after the surgery.
When we got home from Derek’s round at the hospital, Monet had yet another ear infection, this makes 6 in one year. Our pediatrician, Dr. Sudha, referred her to an ENT and she is now scheduled for surgery to have tubes on December 31 ~ HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Since her visit she has yet another ear infection and hopefully we keep her comfortable until the surgery.

Both kids are gearing up for Santa’s visit and I am hoping to get everything ready for them by Friday. Last night on the way home from Grammy and Papa’s we drove slowly past al the houses with Christmas lights and they just giggled up a storm as they pointed each house out.
(Can you believe he wants to go see Santa again after this ruckus?)

and so we did. One simple request from our 3 year old and we jumped and tripped over ourselves to get everything done right away. Granted there isn’t a white Christmas in the ‘Valley of the Sun‘ however it is our Christmas. The tree is up and decorated, Steve hung the lights on the outside of the house and we also have been lighting the Menorah the last 3 nights. We have nearly finished all of our shopping and are going to start wrapping gifts (so the kids can open them and we will rewrap them again & again-we bought the extra-huge rolls of wrapping paper at Costco.) Monet loves it all though it’s still a mystery, all the craziness & decorations.
Derek is healing up really well and eating like a champ. We went to his kidney doc yeaterday and his labs look even better and we are expecting things to be even better in the next few weeks as his body heals and digests food properly. He lost nearly 3 pounds through this last round but is already making BIG strides gaining over a pound in 4 days-most of us would be so upset and here we celebrating for him. The night he was discharged we had pizza and milk AGAIN-thank god I don’t get acid indigestion!
Tomorrow we go to the library, finish Christmas shopping and then prepare for breakfast with Santa on Saturday at the community center (I’ll post pics if we get any.) Back to a normal life with toddlers, at least that’s what we hope.
Thanks for your prayers and support ONCE AGAIN.

I heard from Destiny this evening.
Not only did she get to bring Derek home from the hospital tonight, healthy after abdominal surgery (to deal with some adhesions left from prior surgeries). Not only did she manage to make it through another week of stress and worry and still find a way to laugh. Not only did she have enough brain space left over to ask me about how things are going here (she even asked about my sweater – I almost didn’t want to tell her the sad story)…
But she has her Christmas decorations up before me.
Way to make me look bad, there, Destiny. I have no decorations, a mere handful of gifts purchased, still pretending to myself that Christmas is months away – and here you are, juggling a dozen worries in a week that are bigger than anything I’ve faced in years, and you’re ready for the holidays.
I love you, hon… but really. Could you dial it down a notch?
